Peterson’s LLC is registered in Delaware and Colorado

Peterson’s LLC is primarily registered in Delaware. As of February 2020, Peterson’s LLC is registered in Delaware as a limited liability company. According to the State of Delaware website, Peterson’s LLC incorporated in Delaware on January 31, 2018. The State of Delaware Division of Corporations assigned Peterson’s LLC the file number 6735316; the file number is a system-assigned number to place the filing in the correct order on the state database.

Peterson’s LLC is headquartered in Colorado. Peterson’s LLC is also registered in Colorado as a foreign limited liability company with jurisdiction in Delaware. According to the Colorado Secretary of State, the incorporation in the state took place on May 9, 2013. The Colorado Secretary of State uses the ID number 20131285221 to identify Peterson’s LLC as a foreign LLC doing business in the state.

As of February 2020, Peterson’s LLC lists the same Highlands Ranch, Colorado principal office address on the Colorado Secretary of State website as its parent company, Triangle Digital Ventures. 

Company ownership and leadership

Three different companies have acquired Peterson’s LLC since its foundation in 1966.

The Thomson Corporation acquired Peterson’s in 1995

It was privately held until 1995 when The Thomson Corporation purchased Peterson’s. Peterson’s remained a part of The Thomson Corporation for over a decade.

Nelnet acquired Peterson’s in 2006

According to a July 2006 press release from Nelnet Investors, Nelnet acquired Peterson’s from The Thomson Corporation. In regards to the acquisition, the Vice Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Nelnet said, 

“Since 1966, Peterson's has been a trusted name for students, families, and schools. Quite simply, they are a great resource to help students select the right educational experience, prepare for admission tests, explore ways to pay for their education, and advance their careers. In addition, Peterson's has earned a reputation for helping schools find and recruit students.” - Steve Butterfield, Vice Chairman and Co-CEO of Nelnet

Peterson’s LLC remained a part of Nelnet until 2017. 

Peterson’s is currently owned by Triangle Digital Ventures

A February 2018 press release from Newswire announced Triangle Digital Ventures acquired Peterson’s from Nelnet. The press releases states the transaction closed on December 31, 2017. 

Triangle Digital Ventures was founded by Jordan Stopler and Mo Lam in September 2016. After acquiring Peterson’s, Stopler took over as the CEO of Peterson’s, while Lam assumed the roles of President and CFO. According to their LinkedIn accounts, Lam and Stopler both continue their initial roles with Peterson in February 2020, two years after Triangle Digital Ventures acquired the brand.
